Announcing changes to the ESL Pro League

Season three of the ESL Pro League is nearing its conclusion, and the grand finals in London are fast approaching. However, before we crown the new champions and head into a new season we want to announce the changes coming to the league and its relegation system.

Slot expansion

The professional CS:GO scene has been growing massively in both viewership and number of professional teams. There are now more teams competing at the highest level than when our Pro League first took off, and this is why we have decided to give more teams a chance to compete in our highest league. As such, we are expanding the European and North American division from 12 teams to 14.

Due to the slot expansion we will also be increasing the number of participants in the season finals, more information on which will be announced before the start of the next season.

Relegation changes

Because of the above changes, we will be adjusting the relegation system as follows:
•Teams ranked 1 to 11 will keep their Pro League slot for the next season
•The team ranked 12 will go to relegation and play against team ranked 2 in the Premier Division
•The team ranked 1 in the Premier Division will be automatically promoted to the Pro League
•The last free slot will go to one wildcard team per division

The new relegation rules will be announced in full before the new season starts.

Season three is concluding soon!

The second to last week of Pro League matches is currently underway, with the participating teams all fighting for a slot in the grand finals in London. There eight of Europe and North America’s best teams will battle it out for the Pro League championship and a share of the incredible US$750,000 prize pool.
