Summoners War eSports Festival Draws in Global Fans

On October 13th, Com2uS held their esteemed Summoners War World Championships (SWC 2018) to the excitement of fans around the world. Held at OGN e-Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, the grounds were transformed into a global eSports festival for the Summoners War community to enjoy across the planet. SWC 2018 kicked off in July with a series of regional championships which included the Americas Cup, the Asia-Pacific Cup, and the Europe Cup with 8 players chosen to represent their respective regions in the SWC 2018 Finals.

Beginning in the early morning hours, countless spectators including fans and influencers from overseas poured into the stadium bringing over 1,300 Summoners War fans together in a sold-out event as the finalists battled their way to the grand finals. Fans who weren’t in direct attendance could still catch all the excitement via live streams provided by the official Summoners War YouTube channel, Twitch, and other services.

Clocking in at 100,000 viewers the broadcast was received in 13 different languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. The SWC 2018 Finals also had several events for on-site fans to enjoy beginning on the first floor where people could take part in summoning Monsters, taking photos and using the popular AR photobooth. Fans also got to cast their votes to predict the winner, participate in random attribute battles and QR code activities. The event also presented the latest news from Com2uS’s collaboration with Skybound on the expansion of the Summoners War IP in on the ongoing series: Skybound Insider. SWC would not be complete without cosplayers in full-swing throughout the arena, happily taking photos with fans and showing off around several dioramas designed to replicate the process of summoning Monsters throughout the venue.

As the 8 finalists began their final matches, the pressure intensified round after round, tirelessly battling it out in several singles matches for 6 hours. With the regional pride of each contestant on the line, Korea’s own Beat. D emerged victorious defeating Hong Kong’s L.A.M.A to take the crown hoisting the championship trophy high into the air and taking home the $30,000 cash prize. Furthermore, the guild matches leading up to the finals saw Say SWAG Again from the US defeat Korea’s Barcode 3:0 in a series of heated Guild War battles. Commenting on the format, Com2uS representatives stated, “With our second Summoners War eSports Festival this year, we were able to provide players and fans a fun and exciting atmosphere for them to enjoy a new kind of game culture, and this tournament was held to repay the fans for their love and support for the game.” For more information on the SWC 2018 Finals and past matches, visit the official Summoners War eSports YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/c/summonerswaresports).
