Introducing the tiebreaker system for the Intel Extreme Masters CS:GO World Championship

Find out what will happen during the CS:GO competition in Katowice in the case of a tie

The Intel Extreme Masters World Championship in CS:GO kicks off this Wednesday in Katowice, Poland with the group stages. The tournament will be played with round-robin groups of six, with the teams who finish first in their groups to advance straight to the semifinals while the second and third-placed teams will continue their battle in the quarterfinals. But what will happen if the teams end up in a draw? Find out here!

Tiebreakers

If a three-way tie occurs between the teams in fourth to sixth place, the total prize money for these slots will be split among them.

If a three-way-tie occurs for any other three places, it will be decided in the following way:
•The three teams decide their ranking order by playing three overtimes against each other
•Overtime will be played for the tiebreakers, with a single map selected via veto with all teams participating in the vote
•Each team will start on the T and CT side once
•The tiebreaker is over when one team wins two matches during the first three matches – if each team wins a single match, the process is repeated
