College gamers can compete for a chance at a $5,000 scholarship pool this April thanks to a partnership between the American Video Game League (AVGL) and Call of Duty® to introduce a two week long Call of Duty®: Black Ops III eSports competition. Any team with members over the age of 18 can join the tournament for no fee, additional limitations may apply.
“We are excited to partner with Call of Duty to present a unique college league that will not only help students connect with other players, but also have a chance to win much-needed college funds and develop their gaming skills even further,” said Victor Suski, CEO.
Running April 19th to May 1st, the online league will be played exclusively on PlayStation® 4 and will feature students battling it out in a round-robin format during the regular season leading to a final championship where the winners will be crowned. The final championship is a double elimination bracket with the top eight teams from the regular season participating.
To catch a glimpse of the action, tune in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting at 9 p.m. EST on Twitch.tv/AVGL.
The league itself will be based on four-player teams. Teammates can be found by game and school filters on avglcollege.org. Team registration will take place on the website. The league is open to North American college students, including the United States and Canada. Students must register by April 17th with an .edu email address to participate. Visit AVGLcollege.org for additional information.
