StarCraft II and League of Legends are headed to Intel Extreme Masters in South Korea, and both titles will be also featured at the IEM World Championship in Katowice alongside Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Season 11 of Intel Extreme Masters will make a final stop in Gyeonggi, South Korea from December 16 through December 18 before heading on to the IEM World Championship in March 2017. The Championship will take place in Katowice, Poland as we once again host our flagship event inside the Spodek arena for the epic conclusion to a season full of esports.
Gyeonggi, South Korea
This year, Intel Extreme Masters will return to South Korea and hold its first ever Asian stadium event in the province of Gyeonggi. It’s been eight years since IEM last visited South Korea back in 2008 and held tournaments for World of Warcraft®, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft III, and we are excited to return to what many consider to be the home of esports.
IEM Gyeonggi will feature tournaments in the following games:
League of Legends
StarCraft II
The South Korean esports scene has a great legacy in both of these games, and we are looking forward to seeing some outstanding matches when players and teams clash in the Goyang Sports Complex.
Katowice, Poland
The Spodek arena in Katowice, Poland, has become a true home to the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship, which will return for the fourth year running.
Once again, the World Championship will feature sensational tournaments in three games:
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
League of Legends
StarCraft II
StarCraft II has been part of the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship since Season 5 back in 2011, while League of Legends joined one year later in Season 6. Counter-Strike was a mainstay of IEM up until Season 6, and it made a spectacular return in Season 10 with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Season 11 approaches
Intel Extreme Masters Season 11 will begin in just two months when things kick off in Shanghai on July 28 – 31, and the next stop will be a return to the Bay Area in November with IEM Oakland – tickets for the event are already on sale!
