Final Showdown Set For This Weekend’s $143,000+ MechWarrior Online World Championships

Three teams are left standing to compete Saturday night for the ultimate prize in the highest skill-based tournament in eSports

Piranha Games will host the inaugural MechWarrior Online World Championship Finals this weekend, Saturday, December 3rd at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, where three teams from around the world will compete for the World Champion title and their share of a $143,000+ prize pool. In addition to attending the MWOWC Finals hundreds of fans will be converging at the Commodore for the first official Mech_Con to celebrate the beloved BattleTech and MechWarrior franchises.

More than 1,224 pilots from around the world entered the MechWarrior Online World Championship tournament, which began with a Regional Qualifier phase earlier this year. Between the three remaining teams of eight core pilots each, 67 matches have been played dealing out 693 total kills and a staggering 257,577 total damage points to reach these finals.

Set in the year 3049 during the early stages of a massive interstellar war, MechWarrior Online puts you in the big leagues, commanding the most powerful war machine to ever walk the field of battle: the mighty BattleMech. With more than 13 million+ matches already played to date across three regionally-placed servers, pilots can battle players from around the world on 21 different maps, with more than 400 available ‘Mech variants to choose from in a staggering variety of configurations.

Mech_Con is a special one-day event dedicated to the celebration of BattleTech and MechWarrior. Hosted by Piranha Games and featuring fellow MechWarrior and BattleTech creators and developers Harebrained Schemes and Catalyst Game Labs, attendees can participate in panels, Q&A’s, 1v1 MechWarrior Online matches, win prizes and giveaways throughout the day, and more.
 
Fans can also get a glimpse at the latest build of Harebrained Schemes’ upcoming BATTLETECH – the first turn-based BattleTech game for PC in over two decades. Jordan Weisman, creator of MechWarrior and BattleTech and CEO of Harebrained, will be in attendance. Randall Bills, Managing Developer of Catalyst Game Labs, will also be in attendance with the Catalyst Game Labs demo crew to showcase the latest tabletop BattleTech editions through panels, presentations, and on-site play-sessions.
 
A variety of other activities and presentations will be available at Mech_Con, including a keynote presentation from Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, covering what’s to come in 2017 for MechWarrior Online, along with a special announcement just before the MechWarrior Online World Championship Finals get underway to complete the evening.
