This April is set to host the very first official UK-based Tekken championship, with players across the country competing with one another to be declared the first UK and Ireland Tekken Champion.
Bandai Namco and ESL have partnered up to create a tournament that will tour the UK and Ireland ahead of Tekken 7’s release date on 2 June 2017.
The initial qualifiers will be taking place from the 15 April 2017 beginning in Glasgow before heading to Dublin on the 22 April, Manchester on the 29 April, Birmingham on the 6 May and ending in London on the 13 May.
ESL will then host the finals at MCM London over the weekend of 26-28 May 2017, where the qualified players will be competing for the top spot in the competition.
There’s no mention of what exactly the champion Tekken 7 player will win, but it perhaps sheds some light on the approach that Bandai Namco is taking towards esports with its latest Tekken release.
