The Sydney 8 – can Katowice finalists FaZe claim their first LAN tournament win?

Heading for their first LAN tournament win?

When the CS:GO lineup of FaZe Clan was formed, it was intended to be a super team which would dominate the scene. However, the initial lineup did not work out as it was missing a certain aspect of CS:GO, leaving the team reaching quarterfinals of tournaments at best. Things started changing for the better with the addition of Karrigan who became FaZe’s new in game leader. The Dane pulled his teammates into line and has been leading them to better results, like reaching semifinals at IEM Oakland and ELEAGUE Season 2.

Having added much needed structure with Karrigan, FaZe still lacked some firepower and that came to the team with NiKo. Despite having practiced less than a week prior to IEM Katowice, FaZe took everyone by surprise as they had a great performance in their group and the playoffs as they reached the grand final where, despite a 1-3 loss, they did give Astralis a run for their money.

Despite FaZe Clan being in seemingly great LAN shape (their online results have not been as good), winning in Sydney will not be an easy task considering the opponents. First off, we have current major and IEM World Champions, Astralis, who the big favorites to take another tournament. Teams like SK Gaming or North should also not be underestimated.

There’s a lot of pressure on FaZe coming into Sydney however, the team still has time to practice and perfect their playstyle with NiKo, leaving us with high expectations from the European squad. Will the team prove that IEM Katowice was not just a fluke?
