The 13th annual tournament brought together the world\u2019s most elite Pok\u00e9mon Trading Card Game (TCG) and video game players from more than 30 countries, who battled tirelessly over three days for the title of Pok\u00e9mon World Champion and prizes. Alongside Pok\u00e9mon TCG matches and video game battles using Pok\u00e9mon Omega Ruby  and Pok\u00e9mon Alpha Sapphire, the first Pok\u00e9mon fighting game, Pokk\u00e9n Tournament, took its place on the international stage, and the first Pokk\u00e9n Tournament  World Champions were crowned.<\/p>\n<p>2016 Pok\u00e9mon World Championships Recap: <\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1bKSlCa_pGk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The World Championships represent the pinnacle of Pok\u00e9mon TCG and video game competition, and players must qualify through a challenging, yearlong Pok\u00e9mon Championship Series. While tens of thousands of Pok\u00e9mon players compete in the series throughout the year, only six players were crowned Pok\u00e9mon TCG and Pok\u00e9mon Video Game World Champions, and two more now carry the title of Pokk\u00e9n Tournament World Champion.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Pok\u00e9mon World Champions are:<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pok\u00e9mon TCG Junior Division World Champion, Shunto Sadahiro from Japan.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pok\u00e9mon TCG Senior Division World Champion, Jesper Eriksen from Denmark.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pok\u00e9mon TCG Masters Division World Champion, Shintaro Ito from Japan.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pok\u00e9mon Video Game Junior Division World Champion, Cory Connor from the United States.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pok\u00e9mon Video Game Senior Division World Champion, Carson Confer from the United States.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pok\u00e9mon Video Game Masters Division World Champion, Wolfe Glick from the United States.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pokk\u00e9n Tournament Senior Division World Champion, Josh Simmonite from the United Kingdom.<br \/>\n\u20222016 Pokk\u00e9n Tournament Masters Division World Champion, Masami Sato from Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Winners of this year\u2019s invitation-only tournament earned the title of Pok\u00e9mon World Champion, received a special Pok\u00e9mon World Championships trophy, won an invitation to the 2017 Pok\u00e9mon World Championships, and collected a monetary prize in the form of a scholarship, cash prize, or Travel Certificate. The Pok\u00e9mon Company International awarded more than $600,000 in prizes to top finishers at the 2016 World Championships and has granted over $3 million in scholarships since it began hosting tournaments more than a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach year, the Pok\u00e9mon World Championships bring the global Pok\u00e9mon community together to compete, celebrate, and enjoy the games that have delighted fans for two decades,\u201d said J.C. Smith, senior director of consumer marketing at The Pok\u00e9mon Company International. \u201cCongratulations to our new Pok\u00e9mon World Champions, and a special thank-you to the community of players, family members, volunteers, and fans who make the Pok\u00e9mon World Championships the premier Pok\u00e9mon event of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 2,000 players, fans, and supporters attended the event at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis Hotel, while more than 1.5 million Pok\u00e9mon fans watched the action from home via Pokemon.com and Twitch.tv\/Pokemon.<\/p>\n<p>New in 2016, Google hosted a Robot Experience designed exclusively for attendees of the Pok\u00e9mon World Championships, where participants had the opportunity to personalize custom-made Pok\u00e9mon-skinned robots and challenge their creations in a physical and digital battle with others.
