Classic Tetris World Championship, Eighth annual event to be held this weekend in Portland, Oregon

It’s the ultimate pursuit for Tetris champ bragging rights.  On Oct. 21 and 22 in Portland, OR, the 8th annual Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC), organized by avid fans of the 1989 NES version of the game, comes to the Oregon Convention Center during the Portland Retro Gaming Expo. Every year, the CTWC draws players spanning the globe, from North America, Asia and Europe. The CTWC is known for igniting intense Tetrimino battles among competitors, many who have faced-off in Tetris challenges repeatedly and rivalries run deep. 2017 competitors will include: returning champions Jonas Neubauer (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016) and Harry Hong (2014), European champion Jani Herlevi, Japanese Tetris Grand Master Koryan, and many other players featured in the award-winning documentary Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters.

Entry fee for the CTWC is $15. Entrants can make as many qualifying attempts as time permits. Two smaller tournaments will also take place on Saturday, Oct. 22 – one featuring Tetris: The Grandmaster 2 and an amateur tournament featuring the Tetris SNES version.  For details, prizing and rules for all tournaments, please visit http://thectwc.com/rules/.
