War Child UK & Children in Conflict, charity gaming event – Armistice 2019

War Child UK and Children in Conflict return with their annual charity gaming fundraiser, Armistice 2019, which encourages peaceful gameplay during the month of November to coincide with Armistice Day.

This year the charity has partnered with its friends at Failbetter Games, I Got Games, Digital Legends and Game Insight to create exclusive in-game content that will raise funds to support children affected by conflict. Furthermore, a huge number of peace-promoting titles from Inkle, Snap Finger Click, Brain&Brain!, Dinosaur Polo Club, Oddworld Inhabitants, Bedtime Digital Games, Revolution Software and more will be discounted across Steam and Mobile. Gaming personalities Outside Xbox will also host the War Child Armistice Livestream alongside special guests.

Failbetter Games will today be launching a free update to its critically-acclaimed title Sunless Skies, which will introduce a new mascot to the literary horror RPG: the Sky-Worn Urchin. Orphaned by the Winchester War, the Urchin now stows away on locomotives, intending to see every corner of the sky. Sunless Skies and Failbetter’s previous title Sunless Sea will both be available at a discount on Steam during Armistice 2019.

Additional in-game Armistice 2019 activations are as follows:

  • Guns of Boom (Game Insight): Two new Armistice Insignias/Emblems available, which players can purchase to show their support for children affected by conflict.
  • Respawnables (Digital Legends): ‘Healer’ gadget returns for a limited time, and can be used to stun enemies and heal teammates without the need to switch ammunition type.
  • Afterpulse (Digital Legends): A brand-new IAP containing non-violent content, such as Medic Kits and Lanterns.
  • Shadowgun Legends (MADFINGER Games): An Armistice Bundle will be available from the in-game store priced $9.99. It includes an exclusive War Child Flower Power Helmet, in game currency and peace-themed stickers.

  • Imperia Online (Imperia Online JSC): Players can purchase the Armistice Bundle containing a whole host of goodies to help them improve their empire, including Diamonds, Trade Coupons and Economic Schematics.

  • Lords Mobile (I Got Games): The War Child Armistice Pack available for purchase in-game which contains 20% more gems than regular packs alongside a Shield, Chest of Hasty Learning, Speed Up Items and Resources.

From today until 13 November, Steam will play host to the Armistice 2019 sale, in which gamers can pick-up a number of non-violent titles including Space Engineers (Keen Software House), Feather (Samurai Punk), AER Memories of Old (Daedalic Entertainment),  Mini Metro (Dinosaur Polo Club), Democracy 3 (Positech Games), Samorost 3 (Amanita Design) 11-11: Memories Retold – War Child DLC (BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe) and more at discounted prices. A percentage of all proceeds from the sale will go to help children affected by conflict.

Tuesday 12 October sees gaming personalities Outside Xbox picking up their controllers and hosting a four-hour Armistice live stream extravaganza. The team will be getting stuck into a whole host of peace-promoting titles, and indulging in some friendly chit-chat with a number of guests including comedians Steve McNeil, Bec Hill, Jake Lambert and content creators Hannah Rutherford and Stuart Ashens. The stream kicks off at 4PM GMT and can be viewed via the following link: https://www.youtube.com/user/outsidexbox

ABOUT WAR CHILD UK

War Child is striving for a world where children’s lives are no longer torn apart by war.

We protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in conflict. We aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out, and stay to support them through their recovery – helping to keep them safe, give them an education, and equip them with skills for the future.

We understand children’s needs, respect their rights, and put them at the centre of the solution – from supporting Syrian children to access education, to reintegrating child soldiers in the Central African Republic and promoting justice for young people in detention in Afghanistan. Together with our partners we work in 15 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and Latin America.

We also work with children and young people to change systems and practices that affect them – campaigning on the root causes of conflict and demanding that children are at the centre of humanitarian response.
