This Week In Project CARS: The A1 esports League Finals

Project CARS

After several weeks of Qualifying rounds, the A1 esports League arrived at its big finish this weekend, as Project CARS 2 Rallycross action took place alongside League of Legends. With a €15,000 prize pool up for grabs in the racing competition.

In the Project CARS 2 event, some of the biggest names in sim-racing made it to the finals. Drivers from Oscaro esports, Team Redline, FA Racing G2, VP Gaming, GTA Racing, F4H Motorsport, Team ACR, and more were flown to the 4GameChangers event in Vienna to battle it out. Read on to get the results.

As always, the offline event put a different kind of pressure on the drivers. The guys had to get used to unfamiliar equipment, in rigs that may have differed from their own at home. Plus there was the attention of the crowd and the shoutcasters to contend with. Not only that, but the Rallycross format required maximum concentration. The Quarter and Semi-Final heats, and later the Finals themselves meant that this was an all-day event. This forced the drivers to maintain their effort and focus for much longer than usual, but all of them gave their best performance levels and put on a great show.

At the end of a long day, it was Joni Törmälä of Fernando Alonso’s FA Racing G2 team who won the event, and scored his first victory at a major esports tournament. He took home a cool €6000 for his efforts. He was followed home by F4H’s James Baldwin in second, and Team Redline’s Michal Smidl in 3rd.
