This weekend saw Mountain Dew® and PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), award it’s ‘winner winner chicken dinner’ at the tense culmination of the 2019 Game Fuel League. The competitive tournament for amateur PUBG players hosted its grand finale at MCM Comic Con London, with crowds of attendees gathered to witness the final.
The champion, Sturla Hoberg aka IntenZ from Norway, despite having only played the game for two years has been hotly tipped throughout the tournament by fellow gamers and even professional gaming scouts. Mountain Dew is proud to provide a platform for amateur players and rising stars of esports through the Game Fuel League.
Now he’s the lucky winner of an epic piece of priceless loot for PUBG super fans: a Mountain Dew branded beach buggy, inspired by the PUBG in-game vehicle – a truly coveted one-of-a-kind collector’s item for a super fan.
24-year-old ex-footballer Sturla was delighted with his win: “It’s been a super fun event and amazing experience, especially playing live here at Comic Con. Playing in an arena like this has shown me that I can play under pressure and still focus on the game in the face of distractions. I loved playing competitively, it’s just like when I played football on a pitch. I don’t know what I’ll do with the prize yet! I’d love to drive it in a hidden forest in Norway.”
Host and caster Nikita Buffee from Allied Esports commented: “There’s been some really great players here at the final that have been bouncing around the scene for a while and playing PUBG – this competition gives those up and comers the opportunity and platform to get their name out there and gain momentum. It’s definitely the kind of thing people should be entering and keeping an eye out for if they want to make a name in the gaming industry.”
On Sturla’s win, Buffee noted; “He showed that being smart and consistent is what’s important, he had a game plan and stuck to it, but ultimately, you need to compete to win!”
After two months of intense qualifying rounds across the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Switzerland, the grand finale saw the best players from each country compete against each other in a bid to be crowned victor. The winner beat out over tough competition, hosted exclusively on the Mountain Dew takeover of the HyperX Esports Truck, the world’s first sports truck from Allied Esports to clinch the ultimate prize.
