Call of Duty eSports
The 2018 Call of Duty World League Pro League Presented by PlayStation 4 began its first week of Division B play at the MLG Arena from February 6-8, as all Stage 1 Division B teams began their quest for Stage 1 Playoff qualification.
Luminosity Sweep Two Teams, Beat Two More to Finish Week One in First Place
Luminosity Gaming (1st, 4-0, 12-3) began their week with a 3-1 win over Unilad Esports (7th, 0-3, 3-9) and a 3-0 victory over Evil Geniuses (6th, 1-3, 4-11). In their series against Unilad, LG made a last-minute comeback in the series’ final game on Sainte Marie Du Mont Hardpoint, as Samuel “Octane” Larew cleared out the final hill with his streaks to secure the 250-234 win.
Luminosity also won against Unilad’s regional rival Epsilon (8th, 0-3, 2-9) during the week, putting LG at 3-0 on Division B’s second day of competition. After winning that series, the undefeated LG crew prepared for Division B’s final match of the week against eUnited (5th, 1-2, 5-8) who had beat Splyce (4th, 2-2, 10-7) and then lost to FaZe Clan (3rd, 3-1, 10-5) earlier in the week.
eUnited drew first blood with a 250-225 London Docks Hardpoint win, but Luminosity soon leveled the series thanks to Octane’s performance on Ardennes Forest Search and Destroy.
The two teams traded the next two games and had to settle the series on Sainte Marie Du Mont Search and Destroy. LG decisively took the game 6-2 and the overall series 3-2.
Luminosity will now enter Division B’s second week undefeated but will have to face stiff competition to keep their clean record.
Entering their first week in Division B, Team EnVyUs (2nd, 3-0, 9-3) were underrated due to their performance at Dallas and New Orleans. However, EnVy has seemingly improved from those early 2018 season speed bumps, and are currently chasing LG for Division B’s pole position.
EnVy’s redemption tour started with a 3-1 win over FaZe in Division B’s first Stage 1 match, as EnVy won both Hardpoints and the lone Search and Destroy to win the series.
EnVy returned on day two to earn another 3-1 win, this time over Evil Geniuses, where Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat saved EnVy’s series with clutch kills on Ian “Enable” Wyatt and Anthony “NAMELESS” Wheeler.
The Boys in Blue then ended the week with their winning streak intact, defeating Unliad Esports 3-1 thanks to Cuyler “Huke” Garland’s slaying prowess. SlasheR joined the EnVy slaying party later in the series on Ardennes Forest CTF, as he and Huke had a combined K/D of 57-21 in a 6-0 blowout.
EnVy went on to run away with the series after a London Docks Hardpoint 250-110 victory.
Division B is packed with talent, and all of that skill across eight teams produced more memorable moments in their first week of CWL Pro League Stage 1 competition.
Splyce started their Pro League journey with substitute Tyler “FeLonY” Johnson from compLexity, who was called in to replace Jordan “Jurd” Crowley for the week. Jurd will return to Splyce in Division B’s second week.
Tommey devastated eUnited with his sniper skill over the weekend, snapping two quick kills to help his team advance to a 6-3 victory.
In Splyce’s day two match against Unilad, Tommey once again clutched up to steal a round that saw him even the odds of a 2v4 showdown.
Tommey also had an impressive collateral on week one’s final day, as he put the exclamation point on Splyce’s 6-2 win over Epsilon and earned SCUF Play of the Game honors for the night.
FaZe Clan’s Thomas “ZooMaa” Paparatto was another player who made the Division B highlight reel, as his round ending clutch play gave FaZe an early advantage in their Ardennes Forest CTF game against eUnited.
