The eFootball.Pro League, the esports international competition for football clubs only, will have a second season. Both the organizing company of the eFootball.Pro League –eFootball.Pro– and the global digital entertainment company KONAMI –publisher of the eFootball PES 2020 video game (Pro Evolution Soccer)– made the announcement.
The eFootball.Pro League’s second season will have more entrant clubs that will be unveiled soon, after six top-notch European clubs were vying for the victory in the first edition: FC Barcelona, FC Schalke 04, AS Monaco, Celtic FC, Boavista FC and FC Nantes. In addition, and unlike the 2018-19 campaign, this year the competition will be in the 3v3 CO-OP mode, that is, each team will have three professional players competing instead of two. The second season will have more clubs that will be unveiled soon, and this campaign the competition will be in the 3v3 CO-OP mode
On the other hand, KONAMI has announced eFootball.Open, the competition for amateur players that will replace PES League as of this season. It will be exclusively a 1v1 (individual) tournament, where entrants will have to choose a club to represent, competing alongside others that selected the same one. The available teams will be the same for both eFootball competitions.
Once again, KONAMI is allying itself with EMR (Esports Media Rights) to carry out both competitions. The esports company is founded by Gerard Piqué and already organised the first eFootball.Pro League season and took part in some of the former PES League events in 2018. The total prize pool for eFootball PES 2020 tournaments, including the eFootball.Pro League, eFootball.Open and various international competitions, will be worth US$2M (two million dollars), with a significant part allotted to the eFootball.Pro League.
Jonas Lygaard, Senior Director – Brand & Business Development at Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. commented: “With eFootball PES 2020, we made the bold decision to reposition our brand and take bigger steps towards esports. eFootball is a clear example of the steps that we are taking to elevate the sport and allow as many users as possible, casual or professional, to get involved. Following an exciting start, we’re thrilled to see eFootball.Pro back for another season with substantial changes and additions to be unveiled soon.”
