Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. has announced that PES 2018 has been selected as one of the competition games for this year’s 18th Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018 esports event.
The Asian Games event is a continental multi-sport event hosted by the OCA (Olympic Council of Asia) and will take place in Jakarta-Palembang in Indonesia from August 18th. The 2018 event marks the first-time esports have been included in the line-up, with PES 2018 one of six games chosen to showcase the medium.
PES 2018 is regarded as a landmark in football simulation, and its inclusion as a representation of a key Esport title is welcome recognition. Visitors to the event will be able to see the game in action, while details of KONAMI’s ambitious esports plans will also be detailed.
With the announcement that esports are to be an official competitive sport as of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou in China and also under consideration to become an official competitive sport within the Olympics, the Indonesian event will be an opportunity to show the competitive side of esports to a huge audience.
