Yorkshire’s first ever concert dedicated to the music of videogames is to be performed on Tuesday 25th April as part of the new Leeds International Festival 2017. An Evening of Videogame Music is to be performed by the Leeds International Festival Orchestra at the Riley Smith Conference Room, University of Leeds from 7.30pm, and will feature music from iconic games such as Bethesda Softworks’ titles The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
To celebrate the successful and vibrant games industry in Leeds and Yorkshire, the concert will also feature the world’s first live performances from games developed in the region including Sumo Digital’s Snake Pass, composed by legendary games musician David Wise and Revolution Software’s Broken Sword, written by TV and film composer Barrington Pheloung. Broken Sword’s music will also be introduced by special guest and co-founder of Revolution Software, Charles Cecil.
In addition, An Evening of Videogame Music will include tunes from some of the UK’s most successful indie developers, with a track from The Chinese Room’s Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, written by BAFTA award-winning composer Jessica Curry, and exclusive music from Playtonic Games and Team17’s new title Yooka-Laylee, written by renowned games composer Grant Kirkhope.
The Leeds International Festival Orchestra will be conducted by Ben Crick, Yorkshire based musician who has conducted such international stars as Tasmin Little, Benjamin Frith and Dame Emma Kirkby, and views game music as one of the most important contemporary vehicles for orchestral music. Arrangements for the majority of the evening’s music are from composer Andrew Skeet, who has written more than 60 scores for television and worked with many pop artists including Suede and UNKLE and has been a member of Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy since 2004. Andrew has also arranged and produced the bestselling albums of game music Greatest Video Game Music Volumes 1 & 2, performed by the London Philharmonic orchestra.
