ESL growth, audiences for esports tournaments up 90%

Modern Times Group MTG AB’s (MTG) portfolio company ESL, the world’s largest esport company, announced significant growth across multiple metrics for major ESL tournaments in the first seven months of 2019.

  • Viewership (unique users) has increased with 90 percent in the seven first months of 2019
  • MTG is the home of esports and gaming entertainment, and owns a majority stake of ESL (82 percent) and its Swedish counterpart DreamHack (100 percent)

 

Over the course of the first seven months of 2019, ESL’s data shows that unique users (+90%), hours watched (+190%) and video views (+55%) have all significantly increased as a result of fans tuning into Master-properties such as ESL One, Intel Extreme Masters and ESL Pro League tournaments, shattering the numbers recorded in 2018*. The data does not refer to or include visitors at the event venues.
