SpecialEffect have been bowled over by the enthusiastic response that has greeted their idea of staging this year’s London 10k as a ‘virtual’ event, with over 100 people having already pledged to take part!
With the official ASICS London 10k having been cancelled this summer, the charity is encouraging supporters to #RunTogetherApart on Sunday 5th July instead. Participants will all set off at the same time, but will run in their own locality and in accordance with the prevailing Government social-distancing guidelines.
The involvement of colleagues from the games industry has always been a huge part of the success of this event for SpecialEffect, helping grow its running team from just a handful of supporters in 2010 to over 190 in 2019. This year looks to be no different, with representatives from companies including SEGA, EA, Green Man Gaming, Firefly Studios, Electric Square, Double Eleven, IGN, Universally Speaking, GAME and ukie having all registered so far!
Runners can sign-up through the SpecialEffect website, for FREE, and will receive a special edition finishers medal on completion. There are also plans for a pre- and post-race online meet-up to try and recreate the usual race-day experience as closely as possible. Over the years, it has become something of a tradition for Team SpecialEffect runners to dress-up as their favorite games characters and SpecialEffect are heartily encouraging anyone who wants to run in costume to still do so this time around!
